Alexandra Jones

Biography

Alexandra Jones is Director General for Growth, Science and International at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), appointed to the role in January 2026.

Before this, Alexandra held the position of Director General for Science, Innovation and Growth at DSIT from May 2023 to December 2025. Before that, she served as Director for Science, Research and Innovation at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) from April 2019 to May 2023, where she had also led the development of the 2017 Industrial Strategy white paper as Director of Industrial Strategy.

Before joining BEIS, Alexandra was Chief Executive of Centre for Cities, as well as being Chair of the London Stansted Cambridge Consortium and the Fast Growth Cities group, and a Commissioner on both London Finance Commissions and the Cardiff Capital Region Growth Commission. She has also held various director roles working on labour markets, economic development and public service reform.
