Biography

Sarah Connolly is Interim Director General for Digital Foundations at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), appointed to the role in January 2026.

Before this, Sarah was Interim Director General for Digital, Technology and Infrastructure at DSIT from August 2025 to December 2025, and Director for Digital Infrastructure at DSIT from January 2024 to August 2025. She has also served as Director for Security and Online Harms at DSIT.

Sarah has led internet and international policy at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), including work on the UK’s exit from the EU. She has also held a number of roles in the Home Office, including in the Office for Security and Counterterrorism (OSCT).

Earlier in her career, Sarah worked as an adviser at the US State Department during a posting to Washington, and as an analyst at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), where she focused on security and counter-terrorism policy.

  • digital and data policy
  • cyber security and digital identity
  • digital infrastructure, including Building Digital UK
