The Open Data Strategy attempts to identify how DCLG and its Arms Length Bodies can drive reform and service improvement through transparency and greater participation from citizens, communities, partner groups and small businesses. Open data is an essential part of DCLG’s overarching purpose to drive forward localism and create the conditions for success.

DCLG is already at the forefront of work in government to routinely release data in more open and useful forms. This strategy highlights where DCLG intends to take action in the next two years to make open data-related improvements within the department.
