The review considered the provision of independent criminal advocacy services in courts in England and Wales, looking at the:

  • experience, capabilities and skills needed for these services
  • arrangements for training
  • standards needed to maintain and improve the quality of advocacy
  • future structure of the profession providing advocacy services

The review did not consider legal aid fee rates or public funding requirements, which were outside its remit.
