Details

The Industry Safety Steering Group (ISSG) was set up to report on the progress of the construction industry in delivering culture change and to challenge and hold industry to account.

The ISSG was set up in September 2018 and the report covers the first 6 months of the ISSG’s work.

The report shows that overall the ISSG has been pleased with the work and progress that the building industry has demonstrated on culture change. However, the report makes clear that progress has been slow across parts of industry and this is due in part to the fragmented nature of the construction industry. The ISSG are clear that there is still much more work. The report states that the government’s publication of the consultation, Building a safer future will help the ISSG to take a much firmer stance in holding industry to account and ensure there is real lasting change.

The government has welcomed the ISSG’s report and in particular the progress it demonstrates in some parts of industry to deliver culture change. The government also recognises that more work needs to be done and that ISSG has a continuing and vital role in ensuring that change is made to support better building safety.
