Details

This study to looks at options for a framework for compensation for the victims of the infected blood tragedy. Sir Robert Francis QC is undertaking the study.

The study will report back to the government with recommendations, before the Infected Blood inquiry reports.

7 June 2022

The government has published Sir Robert’s study that looks at options for a framework for compensation for the victims of the infected blood tragedy. The study was delivered to the government on 14 March 2022.

28 January 2022

Sir Robert held a number of discussion forums with infected and affected groups and committed to publishing an anonymised summary of his notes from each meeting.

There were 7 forums held throughout November and December 2021, attended by a wide cross-section of infected and affected individuals and their representative groups. These summaries are published here.

17 November 2021

Having considered the representations made with regard to the time in which submissions need to be received by the Study, and to allow some additional time for this, Sir Robert has decided to extend the deadline for these, until Sunday 19 December. Sir Robert cannot undertake to take into account any submissions received after that date. To accommodate this extension, the Paymaster General has agreed to a short, two-week extension to the deadline for delivery of the report. Sir Robert will now submit his report to the Government no later than Monday 14 March 2022.

The Government has accepted the recommendation from the Infected Blood Inquiry to pay interim compensation to eligible beneficiaries. This document provides the scheme definition.
