National semiconductor strategy

Details

Semiconductors are core components of all electronic devices. They underpin our economy, national security and modern way of life. They are one of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s 5 technologies of tomorrow, and underpin our ambition to advance in other areas such as quantum, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the future of telecoms.

This strategy sets a vision that over the next 20 years the UK will have a world leading position in the semiconductor technologies of the future by focusing on our strengths in intellectual property and design, compound semiconductors and research and development

This strategy has been developed in collaboration with industry and academia and has 3 core objectives:

  • growing the domestic sector
  • mitigating the risk of supply chain disruptions
  • protecting our national security
