The public health outcomes framework concentrates on:
- increased healthy life expectancy
- reduced differences in life expectancy
- healthy life expectancy between communities
This document sets out the technical specifications of the indicators in the public health outcomes framework. For technical definition updates made since August 2016, please see the public health outcomes framework web tool. Local authorities must consider these when carrying out their public health functions.
Following a consultation on the public health outcomes framework, some existing indicators and sub-indicators were revised, replaced or removed. Details of the changes and the reasons behind them are in the government response to the consultation.
