Oil and gas: EEMS database

Access the Environmental and Emissions Monitoring System database to get data on oil rigs and other offshore installations around the UK.

Overview

The Environmental and Emissions Monitoring System (EEMS) is the environmental database of the UK oil and gas industry. Its primary purpose is to record measured and calculated data relating to emissions and discharges from offshore installations.

The system is maintained by OPRED (DESNZ) and is accessible to offshore oil and gas operators and Oil & Gas UK.

Access to EEMS is restricted to authorised users through controlled usernames and passwords.

Access EEMS via the UK Energy Portal

Guidance and returns

A new user group is being established to take forward further development and maintenance of the EEMS database. The following guidance and return documents will be reviewed by the group and replaced or up-dated as necessary.

Direct loading of operator data

The mechanism for handling EEMS reports is based on well-defined international standards. Each EEMS report is defined as an XML document, and for each there is a corresponding XML schema definition. These schema definitions will completely define the concept of a ‘valid’ document, i.e. the rules under which any report is accepted by EEMS. The schema definitions are held in the EEMS database and are available to all users. Over time as the definitions change to reflect amended reporting requirements, the operator community will be able to download the new schema definition and adjust their software accordingly.

User group

A new user group is being established to take forward further development and maintenance of the EEMS database. Minutes of the meetings and any relevant documents or presentations discussed at the meetings will be added to the website.
