Updates to “Air passenger experience of security screening” publication

Data for this publication is drawn from Civil Aviation Authority Departing Passenger Survey. The Departing Passenger Survey was suspended from March 2020 to June 2021 because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, so data is not available for this period. Data collection has since resumed, but using a shortened survey. From July 2021 to December 2022, this shortened survey did not include the security screening questions.

From January 2023, security screening questions were restored to the Departing Passenger Survey.  The ‘air passenger experience of security screening’ publication will resume from September 2024, with this release providing data from the 2023 calendar year. This will be the first release since October 2020.

Aviation statistics provides information on activity at UK airports, passengers, volume of freight handled, punctuality, UK airlines, major international airports and airlines, casualties caused by aviation and air proximity incidents, passenger experience of air travel, security screening and emissions from aviation.

Most of these statistics are collected by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and other organisations external to the department.

Aviation statistics information on current and previous air passenger experience statistics are available.
