Guidance

Create a traineeship vacancy

How training providers can create traineeship vacancies and advertise them on Find a traineeship.

This guidance was withdrawn on

From 1 August 2023, traineeships are no longer delivered through the national traineeships programme. Traineeships can continue to be offered by providers locally.

Applies to England

From 1 August 2023, we will no longer fund a standalone national traineeships programme. Traineeships can continue to be offered as part of our general skills offer.

The last start date for a traineeship is 31 July 2023.

You will be able to submit new vacancies for traineeships until 31 December 2023.

Read the written ministerial statement on the skills update from Robert Halfon, Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education.

You can create a traineeship vacancy in the ‘Recruit a trainee’ section of your apprenticeship service account.

To create a vacancy, you’ll need to be on the Register of apprenticeship training providers.

You will need the employer to give you permission within their apprenticeship service account to create traineeship vacancies on their behalf.

We usually approve or reject traineeship vacancies within 24 hours.

If you deliver traineeships but don’t deliver apprenticeships, you can work with a provider on the Register of apprenticeship training providers who can deliver an apprenticeship following your traineeship. They can advertise traineeship vacancies for you on Find a traineeship.

Before you create a vacancy, learn about preventing discrimination in recruitment.

What you’ll need

Before you start, you’ll need to know the:

  • name of the traineeship vacancy
  • traineeship sector
  • employer that will provide the work experience placement and whether they are disability confident
  • employer’s address and location
  • number of positions available
  • start date and application closing date
  • duration of the traineeship and details of a typical working week

You can save each vacancy as a draft and edit it before you submit it to us, as well as preview how it’ll look.

What happens next

You can check the status of each vacancy in your traineeship dashboard. The statuses are:

  • rejected
  • draft
  • live
  • closed
  • pending review

We’ll check the vacancy and let you know if you need to make any edits within 24 hours. You can view what edits you need to make on your dashboard, but you can also choose to get email notifications.

Once we’ve approved the vacancy, you can view it on Find a traineeship.

You can also extend the closing date after the vacancy has gone live.
