AAIB investigation to Europa, G-OWWW
Loss of control on takeoff at Lydeway Field, on 29 August 2015.
Summary:
The aircraft was on its takeoff roll when, at a speed of approximately 40 kt, it veered to the left, departed the runway and entered a standing crop of corn about 2 ft high. Despite closing the throttle and applying the brakes, the pilot could not prevent the aircraft colliding with a hedge some 15 m from the edge of the runway. The pilot is unsure of the cause of the swing, but considers it is possible that he experienced a sticking brake or a sudden gust of wind. He was taking off in a westerly direction and the wind was from the south, at 5 kt.
