AAIB investigation to EV-97 Teameurostar UK, G-CETT

Heavy landing and contact with metal gate post, Carrickmore Airfield, County Tyrone, 10 April 2019.

Summary:

The pilot was making an approach to land on Runway 08 at Carrickmore Airfield when he encountered turbulent air. The aircraft began to sink which the pilot corrected by apply-ing more power. The aircraft then encountered lift before once again sinking towards the runway. Fearing that the aircraft could stall, the pilot pushed the stick forward and the aircraft landed heavily. The aircraft slewed to the right contacting a metal gate post and damaging the aircraft beyond economical repair. Although the pilot felt there was little more he could have done to prevent the heavy landing, he did comment that perhaps committing to a go-around when the sink was first encountered might have been a better option.
