AAIB investigation to Rans S7 Courier, G-CBNF
Flipped inverted following heavy landing at Netherley Airstrip, on 16 August 2015.
Summary:
The pilot was approaching to land on the westerly grass strip at Netherley, which is 500 m long. He deployed full flap but flared too high and, whilst trying to correct this, he decided to go around and applied full power. However, the pilot admits he left it too late and the aircraft landed heavily, causing the right mainwheel to detach. This led to the aircraft nosing over, before coming to rest inverted in long grass just to the north of the strip. The pilot exited the aircraft with no injuries.
