Cessna A185F, G-BKPC

Summary:

During takeoff for a parachutist dropping flight, the low sun impaired the pilot’s ability to see forward. Just before lifting off, the left main gear struck an obstruction to the left of the runway, causing the left main landing gear to be torn from the aircraft structure. After successfully dropping the parachutists, the pilot flew around to burn off fuel, and then made an emergency landing at Barton Airfield, with the emergency services in attendance. There was no fire and the pilot, who was uninjured, vacated the aircraft unaided.
