Bird flu: near Hingham, South Norfolk, Norfolk (AIV 2024/14)

Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry on 24 December 2024.

Case information

27 January 2025: Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone, the 10km surveillance zone has been revoked.

22 January 2025: Following successful completion of disease control activities and surveillance in the zone around a premises near Hingham, South Norfolk, Norfolk (AIV 2024/14), the 3km protection zone has ended and the area that formed the protection zone becomes a surveillance zone.

24 December 2024: Following further testing highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 has been confirmed in commercial poultry at a premises near Hingham, South Norfolk, Norfolk (AIV 2024/14 previously AIV SOS 2024/03). All affected poultry on the premises will be humanely culled. A 3km protection zone and 10km surveillance zone have been declared around the premises replacing the temporary control zone declared on 23 December 2024.

23 December 2024: Following the report of suspicion of highly pathogenic avian influenza in commercial poultry at a premises near Hingham, South Norfolk, Norfolk (AIV SOS 2024/03) a decision has been taken to pre-emptively cull the birds based on the clinical signs observed and rapidly increasing mortality. All affected poultry on the premises will be humanely culled. A 3km temporary control zone A and a 10km surveillance zone have been put in place surrounding the premises.
