Bluetongue: extended restricted zone (BTD 2024/92, BTD 2024/112 and 2024/138)
Bluetongue virus serotype 3 was confirmed on 4 September 2024.

Update 21 September 2024: Following the identification of cases close to the edge of the larger restricted zone which covered Norfolk down to Kent and East Sussex, and in accordance with our policy of seeking to contain and slow the spread of disease, the 2 zones have now been merged and extended. The zones now also cover all of Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, all Greater London, Surrey and West Sussex.
17 September 2024: Following confirmation of BTV-3 on a number of premises in East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, there is now evidence that there is some local transmission of bluetongue virus. The existing temporary control zone (TCZ) has been revoked and replaced by a larger restricted zone and infected area covering East Riding of Yorkshire and part of Lincolnshire.
11 September 2024: Following surveillance within the Zone two further cases of BTV-3 have been confirmed. The temporary control zone (TCZ) and temporary control area has been extended. Movement restrictions apply to cattle, sheep and other ruminants and camelids and their germinal products.
10 September 2024: Following surveillance within the Zone a further case of BTV-3 has been confirmed. The temporary control zone (TCZ) and temporary control area has been extended.
4 September 2024: following a report of clinical suspicion in a bull on a premises near Withernsea, East Riding of Yorkshire bluetongue serotype 3 (BTV-3) has been confirmed. A 20km temporary control zone has been declared. Movement restrictions apply to cattle, sheep and other ruminants and their germinal products.
