Check the register of fair rents
Search the register of fair rents to find out the maximum rent that can be charged for a ‘regulated tenancy’ (also known as a ‘protected’ or ‘secure’ tenancy).
Most lettings by private landlords that began before 15 January 1989 are regulated tenancies, unless the landlord and tenant live in the same house.
Before you start
You may not be able to find a property online if the last decision about it was registered before 2004.
Contact the Valuation Office Agency if you:
- cannot find a regulated property on the register (it will help if you have a registration number for it)
- want a certified copy of a register entry – this costs £1
