Phase 1

CMA clearance decision

16 December 2016: The CMA has cleared the acquisition by Severn Trent Plc of Dee Valley Group plc. The full text of the decision is available below.

Launch of merger inquiry

29 November 2016: The CMA announced the launch of its merger inquiry by notice to the parties.

This notice replaces the notice dated 17 November 2016 which was published under section 96(2A) pursuant to section 107(1)(i) of the Act, which is inapplicable to the current circumstances based on the application of the Water Industry Act 1991, as amended by the Water Act 2014.

Invitation to comment: Now closed

17 November 2016: The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering whether it is or may be the case that this transaction, if carried into effect, will result in a merger of any 2 or more water enterprises under the Water Industry Act 1991 (as amended by the Water Act 2014) and, if so, whether the creation of that situation is likely to prejudice Ofwat’s ability, in carrying out its functions, to make comparisons between water enterprises.
