Check when you will get your visa decision

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) contact centre staff can only give you an update on the status of your visa application if both of the following apply:

  • it has taken UKVI longer than usual to process your visa application
  • UKVI has not already contacted you about your application

Before you contact UKVI:

  1. Check when UKVI started processing your application.

  2. Check how long UKVI usually takes to process your type of visa application.

  3. Work out the date you should get your decision.

  4. Check if UKVI has already contacted you about your application.

Check when UKVI started processing your application

When UKVI starts processing your application depends on how you proved your identity.

If you proved your identity using the UK Immigration: ID check app

UKVI started processing your application the day you submitted it online.

If you proved your identity in person at an appointment

UKVI started processing your application on the day you attended your appointment.

Check how long UKVI usually takes to process your type of visa application

How long it takes depends on whether you paid extra for a faster decision using the priority or super priority service.

If you paid for a faster decision

Find out how long it usually takes to process your visa application if you paid for the priority or super priority service.

If you did not pay for a faster decision

How long it takes to process your visa depends on the type of visa you applied for - for example, a Student visa or a Skilled Worker visa.

Find the current processing time for your type of visa.

Work out the date you should get your decision

Start with the date when UKVI started processing your visa.

Add the amount of time UKVI usually takes to process your type of visa.

This will give you the date you should get your decision.

Check if UKVI has already contacted you about your application

UKVI will send you an email or letter:

  • when UKVI has made a decision on your application
  • if your application will take longer than usual to process

If you cannot find the email in your inbox, check your junk or spam folder.
