Where you can use this item

You can use this item to map land parcels above the moorland line. You can check MAGIC to find out if your land is above the moorland line.

You can use this item on land that is already being assessed under Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) action MOR1, but you do not need to be in MOR1 to apply for this item.

You can apply for this item if you have land above the moorland line in existing Countryside Stewardship (CS) or Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) agreements.

The item is to fund a map and completion of the moorland mapping record which details all habitats and features. You can also use it to help identify the best management actions for your land.

You can apply for this item once every 6 years.

How this item benefits the environment

The map and completed record will help you understand the best management and grazing actions for habitats and other features on your land. If a habitat is in a poor condition, it will help identify the management you need to use to restore it to a good condition.

What you must do to use this item

Once you have your agreement, you must complete the moorland mapping record and produce a detailed map to fit the scale of your moorland showing:

  • boundaries
  • drainage
  • all habitats and features

You must include all the eligible land in your holding.

If you have a MOR1 assessment you can use it to help produce your map. You can also hire an ecologist or contractor.

To make a claim for this item, you must submit your map and completed record with your claim.

Evidence you must keep

You must keep:

  • a copy of your moorland map
  • your completed record
  • a receipted invoice or bank statement if you use an ecologist or contractor (to be made available if requested) if applicable

Read the record keeping and site visit requirements in the Agreement holder’s guide: Capital Grants, Higher Tier capital grants, and Protection and Infrastructure grants for more information.
