DECC Local Authority Competition
This competition aims to cut heating costs by installing measures like efficient boilers and insulation.
Overview
In 2012 the Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) launched a Local Authority competition, which closed to applications on 30 November 2012.
DECC has awarded £46 million to projects across the country to help reduce fuel poverty, boost energy efficiency and encourage collective switching and purchasing across the country.
The £46 million has been allocated in 3 areas:
- £31 million to help vulnerable householders keep warm this winter
- £10 million to kick start the Green Deal with ‘Pioneer Places’ projects
- £5 million to set up collective switching schemes – ‘Cheaper Energy Together’

Background
Bids for each of the competitions were judged separately against a range of criteria including:
- value for money
- impact on fuel poverty
- potential to generate further investment
