Guidelines for conducting IPM clinical trials (2nd edition).

Abstract

This document, a second edition of 'Guidelines for the conduct of IPM's clinical trials' published in April 2006, defines general principles to be used in implementing clinical research, subject to adaptation to suit local circumstances or improvements in the light of experience. It is available in English and French. The subjects covered are: community engagement; informed consent; risk reduction counselling and provision of condoms; sexually transmitted infection screening and treatment; contraception and management of pregnancy; referral for volunteers who test HIV-positive at pre-enrolment screening; provision of antiretroviral treatment for participants; treatment and compensation for physical harm; services for research centre staff; and post-trial access to microbicide products.
