The European University Institute (EU Exit) Regulations 2022
This instrument removes from domestic law any rights, powers, liabilities, obligations, restrictions remedies and procedures (“rights etc.”) which derive from the UK being party to the EUI Convention and which would otherwise remain on the statute book as ‘retained EU law’.
Sifting committees’ recommendation
The Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee agreed with the government that this statutory instrument does not have to have a debate in parliament, though one may still occur. However, the European Statutory Instrument Committee disagreed with the government and recommended that this statutory instrument needs to be debated in parliament.
These Regulations have now been debated and approved by both Houses of Parliament.
