You must notify the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) if you want to hold a public procession or parade in Northern Ireland.
How to apply
Download a notification form from the Parades Commission website or get a form in person from your local police station. You must submit your form to an officer of rank sergeant or above at the police station nearest to the proposed starting point of the procession or parade.
You must give notification to the police at least 28 days in advance of the intended date.
A shorter time period may be allowed if earlier notification wasn’t possible, although the reasons for this must be provided on your notification.
You must provide:
- name and address of the organiser
- the date and time when the parade or possession is to be held
- the route
- number of people likely to be involved or supporting it
- details of any bands taking part
- arrangements for control
Conditions
The PSNI will pass a copy of the notification form to the Parades Commission who will consider the application and may issue a determination in respect of the procession or parade and any conditions to be attached.
Fines and penalties
You could be imprisoned for up to six months and/or fined £5,000 if you organise or take part in a public procession or parade which has not been notified.
