Details

The Environment Agency has worked in partnership with the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) to develop a free tool to evaluate the benefits of sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS).

BeST (Benefits of SuDs Tool) provides a structured approach to evaluating a wide range of benefits, most often based on the overall performance of the drainage system.

The tool follows a simple structure that includes:

  • a screening and qualitative assessment to identify which benefits to evaluate
  • guidance on quantifying and monetising each benefit
  • graphs and charts presenting the benefits based on ecosystem services (ESS) and triple bottom line (TBL) criteria

This project ran from 2010 to 2017.
