Details

This project aimed to develop better ways of predicting different types of flooding on the coasts of England and Wales. These new methods involve modelling how water moves in different areas of the sea (such as offshore, nearshore and the surf zone), and how it behaves around coastal defences. The models use probabilities to make predictions about how likely coastal floods are to happen.

The project produced two reports that:

  • describe how the new models were developed and assessed
  • look at how well the new models forecast floods on coasts

The project started in 2006 and was completed in 2008.
