Details

This project produced updated guidance on how to design and operate culverts, to replace the design guide originally published by CIRIA in 1997.

The updated guidance takes a whole-life approach to the design and operation of culverts, with a focus on asset management. This reflects the significant changes that occured in the business of asset management over the 10 to 15 years before its publication. This guide examines both the drainage basin in which culverts are located, and the infrastructures systems around them. It includes advice on innovative approaches and techniques for inspection, maintenance and reporting.

This project was started in September 2007 and completed in November 2010.
