Details
This project measured the effect of rock size, core impermeability, crest width, wave climate and water level on the performance of submerged offshore breakwaters. It compared how effective submerged breakwaters are compared to surface piercing breakwaters, and the relative benefits of the two solutions.
The results of this project can be used by operating authorities when designing methods for offshore breakwater schemes. This research shows that there is potential for significant improvements to the design of offshore breakwaters.
This project ran from 1998 to 1999 at a cost of £100,983.
