Objectives

This project aims to develop a standard set of protocols to be followed when developing river models for real-time forecasting. These protocols should be part of a suite of tools and guidance for assuring quality and auditing the way modelling is carried out. Specifically, they should test that key tasks have been carried out properly and that a minimum standard has been achieved at each stage of the building and calibrating the model.

Findings

The final reports contain technical information and research findings from this project. It also contains recommendations for defining and applying ways of measuring performance for flood forecasting. These are intended mainly for use by Environment Agency staff involved in flood forecast modelling in day to day operations. This research will be of interest to others involved in assessing flood forecasting systems.

This project ran from 2002 to 2004.
