Details
Phase 1 (FD1401) of this programme assessed different methods of predicting how the shape of an estuary will change over time and in varied circumstances. Carried out by a consortium known as EMPHASYS, the first phase produced useful results that should be more widely used. This second part of the project therefore designed a programme of workshops and reports to communicate the results of phase 1 out to the wider research community.
The programme included a series of five workshops across the UK. Each one was structured to provide advice on how to specify a programme of studies to address estuary issues, and how to interpret the results. It also produced a set of Guidance Notes for Assessing Morphological Change in Estuaries to provide best practice guidance on choosing the right approach. This included a prototype software package to lead the user through a series of stages to assess a particular issue.
The programme started in 2002 and finished the same year, at a cost of £172,500.
