Details

Managed realignment is the deliberate process of moving a flood defence to improve the overall efficiency of the coastal defence or flood risk management system. It’s one of the strategic options for managing defences in river catchments, estuaries and open coast situations. This project was designed to produce guidance and recommendations for carrying out managed realignment to overcome obstacles to it being used. This will increase the number of areas where it’ll be used to enhance the sustainability and environmental benefits of flood and coastal defences.

The project started in 2001 and was completed in 2002 at a cost of £69,238.
