Details

This project investigated scientific areas where new research could help the Environment Agency’s work. It focused particularly on the following research areas:

  • mechanics
  • electrics
  • instruments
  • controls
  • automation

It looked at where investment in research could bring the biggest benefits.

The study used interviews with staff from the Environment Agency and other organisations, such as internal drainage boards to draw up a list of possible projects. The list was then divided into categories and discussed at a workshop to shortlist nine projects which were likely to be most cost effective and / or most important. The report also gives a brief outline of the existing literature around the chosen projects, and some thoughts about how to fund them.

The project was started in 2007 and completed in 2009.
