Background

The government plans to improve the long-term resilience of:

  • homes
  • businesses
  • infrastructure
  • the environment

It also plans to reduce harm from natural hazards, including flooding and coastal erosion. It wants to help people to continue to live well in their homes by preparing and being ready for floods.

Approach

The project reviewed five approaches for defining and conceptualising flood and coastal erosion resilience.

The review concludes with a list of recommendations and actions required for taking forward a flood resilience approach, and describes what a definition of resilience should include.

The project started in 2019 and completed in 2020 at a cost of £67,980
