This project was a pilot exploring whether the CIRIA method of assessing risk was appropriate for reservoirs which are only full in times of flood.

Details
This project tested the CIRIA (Construction Industry Research and Information Association) reservoir risk assessment method on five sample Environment Agency flood storage reservoirs (FSRs). The CIRIA method was developed for reservoirs that are full most of the time, but flood storage reservoirs are only full in times of flood.
This project evaluated whether the CIRIA method could be applied to FSRs. It looked at whether any changes to the method were needed before it could be applied to all Environment Agency reservoirs. It also examined whether further research would be needed to develop the method.
The report includes:
- the results of an initial test in five reservoirs
- a review of relative risks
- a review of the CIRIA method
- recommendations for developing the method for FSRs
This project ran from 2002 to 2004.
