Background

A considerable amount of research on river restoration has been done in the UK and elsewhere in the world, which is documented on the internet. Practitioners who want to consider or apply river restoration or habitat improvement need to be able to refer to guidance on the aspects involved. They also need to learn from the successes and failures of others. Improving the availability of this information could reduce duplication of work and enhance current and future rehabilitation projects significantly.

Approach

This project scoped the work required to develop an internet toolkit and drew together new information from recent river restoration work carried out in the UK.

The technical report considers the steps needed to develop an internet toolkit for river restoration. It gives a coarse estimate of the number of potentially useful web sites available on the internet and includes hyperlinks to a number of sample sites associated with river restoration.

The project started in 2000 and was completed in 2004.
