Background
The management of sediment in watercourses in England and Wales is likely to become more important over the coming years and decades as the intensity and frequency of rainfall increases due to climate change. This will affect the delivery of sediment from upstream watercourses and catchments.
Objectives
This report presents the findings and outputs of Phase 2 of the ‘River Sediments and Habitats and the Impacts of Maintenance and Capital Works’ project. The aim of this research is to improve our understanding of the effect of watercourse management actions on river sediment and habitats.
Findings
This project ran from 2004 to 2011 based on field trials and demonstrations. The project results are summarised in three main reports and an e-learning package outlining the key recommendations. The results of this research and future projects will allow river managers to use watercourse management methods that enhance the environment.
