Call for Evidence: Tackling Non-Financial Barriers to Gas CHP
Read the full outcome
Detail of outcome
This publication summarises responses to the Call for Evidence and key points from discussions at the four stakeholder events which took place during the Call for Evidence.
The responses confirmed the indicative non-financial barriers identified by DECC’s research and suggested some additional barriers. There was general support for two potential measures to address these barriers and a further two potential measures were supported by a smaller number of responses.
Limited evidence on the effectiveness of these measures was identified. There was a strong message that any support should be delivered as part of a broader programme of energy efficiency support.
DECC is considering these messages as it develops policy in this area
Original call for evidence
Call for evidence description
Natural gas fired CHP is an energy efficiency technique that can save up to 30% energy compared to generating heat and power separately from the same fuel. It can be implemented by a wide range of commercial, industrial and public sector organisations to save on their combined gas and electricity bills and reduce carbon emissions.
This Call for Evidence seeks evidence on barriers to deployment of gas CHP and on the effectiveness of a range of potential measures to address those barriers. We would welcome responses from commercial, industrial and public sector energy consumers, organisations involved in delivering gas CHP projects, academics and consultancies.
