Call for evidence description

The Independent Sentencing Review is seeking evidence to help the development of recommendations to ensure we are never again in a position where the country has more prisoners than prison places, and the government is forced to rely on the emergency release of prisoners.

The Panel is seeking evidence across 7 themes:

  1. History and trends in sentencing
  2. The structure of sentencing
  3. The use of technology within sentencing
  4. Community sentences
  5. Custodial sentences
  6. The progression of custodial sentences
  7. The individual needs of victims and offenders

The Panel welcomes responses from all who have an interest in this area. The Panel encourages all those responding to the call for evidence to be ambitious, and welcomes any ideas which challenge current thinking, are innovative, or which spotlight best practice and how it can be extended.
