Call for evidence description

Start date 31 January 2011

End date 18 April 2011

This call for evidence sought views to assist the review of the regulatory differences between occupational and workplace personal pension schemes.

The introduction of automatic enrolment in 2012 will reinvigorate the pensions landscape and we will see millions more people saving for their retirement.  The Government is committed to ensuring that the legislative framework governing pensions remains appropriate in light of these changes.

In particular, we want to make sure that the separate rules and regulations governing workplace personal pensions and occupational pension schemes are consistent with the aims of automatic enrolment. We do not want to see instances of regulatory differences being exploited or adding unnecessary burdens on business. In particular we are interested in views and evidence concerning the use of short service refunds and disclosure of information.

This call for evidence provided an opportunity for interested parties to submit evidence on these important issues, as well as suggest any potential solutions.  Any solutions will be judged against the benefits to individuals, and the potential burden on schemes and employers and the Government’s de-regulatory agenda.

This call for evidence closed on 18 April 2011. The Government will respond to the call for evidence in the autumn, outlining the actions we intend to take in response to the evidence presented.
