£15.7 million to improve transport links into Exmouth (Levelling Up Fund 2)

Levelling Up Funding of almost £16 million has been provisionally allocated to the ‘Destination Exmouth’ project in Devon.

Destination Exmouth is a package of two key projects in the area.

Exmouth Gateway

The Exmouth Gateway is a key transport hub for Exmouth train station and the end of the A376. Improvements to help pedestrians and cyclists include:

  • blocking up the subway for the area to be used by the public
  • improving bike parking and cycle lanes
  • widening of pathways for pedestrians
  • better bus stop facilities

Dinan Way

Levelling Up funding will also support the completion of Dinan Way, 830 metres of new carriageway that will connect the north and east of Exmouth with the A376. The new carriageway will:

  • alleviate traffic from local residential roads
  • move traffic away from the town centre and school
  • cut bus journey times
  • improve safety, particularly for pedestrians
  • provide better access to business parks and employment areas

Councillor Andrea Davis, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said:

Destination Exmouth will help fund improvements for walking, cycling and public transport, as well as completing the Dinan Way link road, all of which can reduce town centre traffic and tackle carbon emissions while boosting the economy.
