Case study

£175,000 allocated to Wye Valley pub

Residents have now brought The Rising Sun pub into local ownership with £175,000 from the Community Ownership Fund.

The Rising Sun pub passed through different owners, before closing in 2011 and leaving the whole village without a pub.

Renovation works are underway

Work is already underway with:

  • the external façade getting a much-needed makeover
  • a new outdoor porch

Volunteers are also helping to decorate and clean-up to ensure that it opens as soon as possible.

Pub to become a central hub

The community wants to make The Rising Sun a central village hub providing:

  • space for local groups to meet
  • entertainment
  • events

Accessibility upgrades

The planned renovation works include accessibility improvements. These upgrades will make the pub more welcoming for:

  • older members of the community

  • families with young children
  • people with disabilities
