£20 million allocation for Aberdeen city centre
£20 million from round one of the Levelling Up Fund was allocated to Aberdeen. Plans for the funding include the creation of a new market in the heart of the city centre.
A new destination venue in the heart of Aberdeen
The market will have a mixture of unit sizes to provide space for local entrepreneurs and produce sellers. Part of the funding will be used to:
- improve connectivity between north of the marketplace and local transport
- upgrade the streetscape along Union Street
Transforming Aberdeen
The projects will provide a clear, attractive and easy to navigate corridor for residents and visitors. This will encourage greater city centre footfall and support the future prosperity of the city centre businesses.
The new destination market will also have:
- seasonal temporary cafés
- ‘international style’ food and drinks outlets
- a variety of fixed units
