The funding will help modernise Tate Liverpool. Exhibition spaces will be upgraded to accommodate new forms of contemporary art.

Remodelling of the Tate’s gallery space will:

  • deepen its connection with the local area
  • transform the visitor experience
  • create new social spaces

Helen Legg, Director, Tate Liverpool said:

When Tate Liverpool was established in 1988 it was a pioneer for arts-led regeneration of industrial cities and this investment will enable us to remain at the cutting-edge well into the future.

National Museums Liverpool expansion

National Museums Liverpool plans include the following upgrades to the Museum of Liverpool:

  • improvements to learning spaces
  • new temporary exhibition space
  • extension of the café

Historic buildings, such as the Hartley Hut, will be brought back to life. The funding will also support Liverpool’s International Slavery Museum. It will allow the museum to explore the legacy and impact of historic and modern slavery.

Laura Pye, Director of National Museums Liverpool said:

This funding brings us a step closer to realising our ambition to transform the historic waterfront into a stunning leisure and cultural destination, with a powerful heritage narrative, while boosting the local economy and securing greater financial sustainability for our museums and galleries.
