£40 million funding for new ‘Multiversity’ in Blackpool (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£40 million from Round 2 of the Levelling Up Fund will build a new education campus in Blackpool.

The ‘Multiversity’

The campus will replace the ageing Blackpool and Fylde College with new state of the art facilities in the town centre.

The Multiversity campus will:

  • offer more than 70 courses
  • expand the college’s Higher Education offer
  • bring new technical and professional learning opportunities to Blackpool

Collaboration with Lancaster University

The Multiversity will become an established part of Lancashire’s higher education landscape.

The new courses, developed with Lancaster University, will include automation, mobility and artificial intelligence.

The new curriculum and increased student capacity will help students to learn new skills and provide post-18 progression routes.

Levelling Up Blackpool

Levelling Up support for the Multiversity will build on other government funding, already allocated to Blackpool such as the Blackpool Town Deal.

The new Multiversity will:

  • increase footfall in the town centre
  • make Blackpool a place for residents and visitors to enjoy

Accessible location

The campus will be located near the transport interchange at Blackpool North station.
