Case study

£47.8 million allocation for Peterborough Train Station (Levelling Up Fund 2)

Plans for the allocation are to regenerate the area around the train station – known as Station Quarter.

Transformation of the station

Plans for the funding will transform Station Quarter, creating an improved gateway to Peterborough and Cambridgeshire on the East Coast Main Line.

Improvements to the station entrance include:

  • building a new western station entrance, creating a double-sided station
  • creation of new car park closer to the station entrance
  • an improved footbridge over the train lines
  • new green areas with community spaces and better connections to the city centre

A boost for the region

The station improvements will:

  • encourage more rail travel
  • improve rail passenger journeys
  • make the city safer and easier for pedestrians
  • bring more jobs and visitors to the area
