£90,000 for Tredegar’s Queen's Ballroom
The Community Ownership Fund allocation will help refurbish and redevelop the Queen’s Ballroom.
Located in the South Wales town of Tredegar, the Queen’s Ballroom has a rich history. Built as a cinema in 1910, the building has served as a:
- skating rink
- nightclub
- ballroom
In recent years it has fallen into disrepair. Now, with £90,000 from the Community Ownership Fund, key refurbishment work has been given the go-ahead.
The funding will allow the building to become a home for community projects. The refurbished ballroom will:
- act as an event space
- welcome the community

It will lift the town. It’s an old dark building at the moment. We are hoping to refurbish it to a nice standard. Upstairs will be the permanent home for the Blaenau Gwent Film Academy. Downstairs is going to be for events of all kinds and to bring the community together once again.
