Case study

Accrington Town Square transformed with £20 million (Levelling Up Fund 2)

£20 million from the Levelling Up Fund will improve Accrington town centre through three projects.

Accrington Market Hall

The market hall will be refurbished and transformed into a new food hall and trading area for locals and visitors to enjoy, create jobs and provide business opportunities for traders and hospitality.

Funding will also be used to demolish an underused pavilion and create:

  • a green area
  • space for outdoor eating
  • places for local traders

Burtons Chambers

Levelling Up funding will be used to convert the vacant and derelict Burtons Chambers building into a co-working space.

The space will accommodate 140 desks and event spaces for local entrepreneurs and small businesses to grow.

Market Chambers

Another vacant building in Market Chambers will also be repaired and refurbished. This will become a new cultural space, in the next phase of its development.
