Castlegate’s £20 million regeneration
£20 million from the Levelling Up Fund will support regeneration in Castlegate, the birthplace of the city.
Redeveloping this previously neglected area of Sheffield will encourage more:
- visitors
- residents
- investors
Educational opportunities at the Castle
The project plans include preparing a large brownfield site for development. Plans for the site are set to include:
- restoration works on the River Sheaf
- public area improvements
- new green space
Once developed, the site has plans to include:
- an adult education centre
- a sixth form college
New arts, culture, and heritage destination
Plans for the revitalised destination in Castlegate include:
- one of the largest contemporary art galleries in the north
- creative workspace
- learning facilities

New facilities for Sheffield’s music institutions
Sheffield Music Academy and Sheffield Music Hub currently operate from borrowed facilities. Harmony Works wants to provide them with a fit for purpose home.
Harmony Works plans to buy the Grade II listed Canada House. The aim is to repurpose it as a location for the two music institutions.
