Centre for social enterprise in Bishop Auckland receives £65,000
A former community centre in Bishop Auckland is being transformed into a new social enterprise and creativity hub. The project is supported with over £65,000 from the Community Ownership Fund.
The new centre
Dorset Place Community Centre first opened in the 1970s but has been derelict for several years. Bridge Creative, a community interest company, is leading the project.
The new centre will:
- offer support for adults with learning disabilities and autism across County Durham
- include enterprise spaces for local social enterprises and community organisations
Opportunities for the local community
People from the local community have been involved in the creation of the new centre.
Ben Tinkler, Director at Bridge Creative said,
The funding has enabled us to complete our community-led project. In true community spirit, 12 adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults have worked alongside the contractors to decorate the centre, gaining real work experience and learning a new trade, working on a centre that they will benefit from for years to come!
We can’t wait to see the benefits the Centre of Social Enterprise is going to have on the local community.
